On my Soap Box….
Ok so there has been a lot of conversations surrounding the Dreaded…. da da da……
California Proposition 8, the ban on gay marriage.
I found it shocking that this kind of ban would be in affect any where in the US but the fact that it was passed in California was even more shocking to me.
I happened to be reading a friends blog who posted a post about this very thing wanting to know why anyone would be “ok” with banning gay marriage. He has yet to have any one give a reason other then religion and Bigotry but as I read through some of the comments I read the dumbest reason of all….
It was something that one of his readers said that they overheard… (not believed) just offering a “Maybe this is what they think” kind of comment…
“I overheard somebody talking about the marriage deal, and they said something to the effect of “marriage” being a contract with the child the two people gave life to, and that that wouldn’t be possible between two people of the same sex.”
I know that the person that typed this does not believe this statement but I thought about this comment for a while after reading it…
So in reading that thought what they think (the person that actually made the comment that was over heard) is that just because a same sex couple can not biologically create a child together that they cannot or should not be married? Or wait, so the only reason for any one to get married is because they have to reproduce?
Does that mean that because my husband and I don’t want to have children that our marriage is not real in the eyes of the state? Or what about the couples that can not have children due to medical issues does that mean that their marriage is not real in the eyes of the state?
What if we adopt? That would be a contract between my husband and me with the Child that we choose to adopt, right? I mean a same sex couple can adopt and make that same contract with a child? So that just kind of blows that out of the water…I am not sure I mean really what do you think about that?
As for Prop. 8 it should never have gone up at all for debate. It should be the right of any person to marry any other person that they choose to. The only reason that this went up at all was because some religious bigot said that in the eyes of “god” that it isn’t right… or “moral” that everyone should have to believe and do what they say we should.
I feel that anything connected with Religion should not have a place in State or Federal affairs. We as a Nation were created on the belief that no one could ever tell us what religion to practice. This should mean that the government can not tell anyone what they can and can not believe. By allowing this kind of idiotic principle to continue you are saying that it is “ok” for whomever is in government to tell everyone that, what “they”(the people in charge) believe in, weather it is a Christian religion or whatever is the right way to live. They are forcing their “religion” or their “morals” on to me and to others.
Telling someone that they can not marry someone they love because it isn’t “morally” right. Is interfering with that basic right to believe what they want to believe and live how they want to live. They are not hurting me or anyone else because they are the same sex and they want to get married? They are not breaking any laws or committing murder. How can anyone justify saying no this? Why is it ok for anyone to tell anyone else that what they believe in is wrong or right. They should be able to do and believe whatever they want to with out forcing that on to anyone else. (This is why the government should not have any say at all in this!)
I feel so bad for all of the gay and lesbian couples that have been affected by this kind of oppression. You would think that in this day and age in the wonderful USA we would be past this kind of close mindedness. I am shocked and very ashamed that this happened and I hope that this some how gets over turned.
I know that I will continue to support my friends that are in a same sex relationships all over the US that want to be married for love, but can’t because their state government says that they can’t.
That being said… If you want to, you can move up here to Massachusetts… too bad that not all states are as open minded as we are. I hope that changes soon!
I am now stepping down from my soap box…

That and the Lord with his really big eye is going to send me to hell… for not having babies.. haha
I guess that I will be in good company though… lol

I got into a HUGE argument with someone online once because they flat out told me that I shouldn’t be married if I wasn’t planning on having children, because that’s all anyone gets married for. In the same conversation, they also told me that I was a terrible wife because I let my husband cook dinner, that I was sinning because I wasn’t having sex for procreation purposes, and that I obviously didn’t love my husband if I wasn’t willing to bear him children.
I don’t understand why people can be so ass-backwards when it comes to same sex relationships. Don’t like gay sex? Fine – don’t have it. But don’t stop the people who obviously love each other from showing their commitment to one another. You know these same people would FREAK THE FUCK OUT if someone told them they couldn’t get married for some reason.

I know it is soo nuts the way that some people blindly believe this stuff… I understand faith and whatever but like you say you don’t like it don’t participate…
Can’t they just happily let the rest of us live our lives the way we want to… even if they think that we are going to hell… what do they care if they are doing everything that they are “supposed to” then they will go to heaven right???
Are they rebelling so hard because they deep down know that everyone else is right and that maybe God doesn’t really care about all of this stuff. Or worse there is nothing beyond this and they are wasting their lives fighting for something that isn’t there…
If the person that you argued with is right I believe that you, me, and Robin are all going to hell… lol Like I said at least we will be in good company… but having a baby right now would be like hell so why not enjoy now and worry about hell later…

Hey girls, whoever gets to hell first should save the others each a seat and get a coffee…I assume there is coffee in hell…and pastries.
ps. This kind of thing is why I don’t like religion…it seems to me people so easily get brainwashed out of nowhere. I’m not going to believe a book or a mythical character about how I should live my life.

I was truly shocked by the outcome on Prop 8. I really, really believed that people were starting to become more educated and tolerant. Sadly, no.
