day dreaming…..
She feels him looking at her across the room and it makes her feel self-conscious; but she can’t bring herself to look and confirm that he is indeed looking it’s just a feeling. She just feels the hot rush of red blood cells surface to her cheeks.
Out of all of the beautiful women here tonight why is he staring at her? She is not nearly as glamorous as they are. She is only wearing a borrowed gown and she had done her own hair she didn’t get it done in a beauty parlor. She is not wearing any spectacular jewelry like the other ladies just her mothers pearl earrings and a solitary pearl on a chain for a necklace. She felt like a plan Jane in the mists of the royal family.
Earlier this evening when she walked in to the room she noticed him standing confidently smoking his cigar and talking to a group of what looked like important men. He was the most handsome man in the room. Her eyes gravitated to him. She wondered if he was just as important as the men that he talked to? He was dashing in his black tuxedo with the red rose on his lapel. His hair was cut perfectly and you could tell that if it were longer it would be slightly curly. She was frozen in curiosity and admiration when he caught her staring at him. Instant embarrassment washed over her as she quickly turned to the host to get seated. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him smile with appreciation at catching her looking. That is when she noticed that he had piercing blue eyes.
Now all night all she could think about those eyes especially since she could feel them on her. The music in the ballroom started up. She wished that he would just walk over and say hello.
He could see that she was trying very hard to not look over to see if he was admiring her from a distance; but he suspected that she knew that he was. He watched her as she sipped her drink and gazed around the room slowly careful to not look in his direction. It made him laugh to think that he affected her that much and they hadn’t even spoke. He was waiting for the right moment. He wanted to rush up to her and sweep her off her feet the second he saw her standing at the door looking at him. She was wearing a red evening gown that hugged her curves and she didn’t over do her jewelry like the other women. Her dark coppery brown hair was swept up in the back of her head with a few stray curls cascading down like they had escaped the tight twist she tried to trap them in. She was a vision of grace and beauty and he had to meet her.
He wanted to make sure that she was alone she didn’t want her to feel any more nervous than she already was. To have a stranger talking to her when her date arrived would be to hard to explain but now that he had watched her for a while, he new that she was here alone.
He took one more long admiring look before he started his journey over to her table to ask her to dance. The band in the Ballroom began to play as he started his walk toward her.
The Waiter walked over and offered her another glass of wine when she saw out of the corner of her eye that he was making his way over to her table. In complete fright she grabbed the closest drink on his tray and drank it in one quick gulp. Then grabbed for another one. The waiter walked away shaking his head at the strange way she was behaving. Realizing how odd she was acting she began to slowly sip her drink and try to calm herself.
He was now standing before her with his hand stretched out in front of her in a silent invitation to dance. Not sure what to do she threw caution to the wind and grabbed his hand and let him lead her to the dance floor.
More to come!
